Sixth graders have spent the majority of this six weeks studying poetry; the final lesson paired technology and poetry to bring new depth to the students’ work. Students wrote imagery poems and drew accompanying images or shapes that represented their words. Classes then headed to the library to color the outlines on their artwork for Ozobots to follow. Ozobots read the different marker colors and reacted accordingly (certain color combinations will make them spin around, or flash their lights, or speed up). Students read their poems aloud, and the Ozobots followed the code while a partner recorded it all on an iPad. Everyone enjoyed watching the students’ writing come to life.
